Community
If it is indeed true that it takes a village to raise a child, one can only imagine the strong partnerships which are necessary to maintain an effective community organization for almost 80 years. When families must grapple with financial hardships, domestic violence and mental health challenges, the whole community feels the repercussions.
Family Service’s longevity and success is rooted in our partnerships with our generous donors; individuals, corporations and other civic groups. We are dependent on the ongoing interest and support from our donors to serve over 3,100 clients each year.
As a United Way agency, we have employees assigned to CROYA and the Lake Forest Senior Center, we maintain a community welcoming center, Nuestro Center, in Highwood. We have begun a comprehensive community project impacting Latino youth in Highland Park. We reach out to and support Senior services in Barrington and Deerfield. New and expanded programs include:
- a Senior Health and Wellness Initiative for Seniors living in the Round Lake communities
- an expanded English as a Second Language program including Medical English
- workshops to support grandparents who are caretakers
- new alliances with law enforcement agencies to provide intervention services for families threatened by domestic violence issues.
We are leveraging our expertise and existing partnerships with schools and church groups to extend our services deeper into our community, creating new partnerships to reach even more people in need.
